Facebook Tutorials; How To Set Up Feeds

Because so many people have been asking me how to get their Facebook pages to automatically post when they share something on their blog, or Twitter etc. I wanted to take this opportunity to answer the question I got today from Nichole, and help anyone else who may be needing it.

Hey Matt- I want to connect my facebook to the desert brilliance site and blog but I don’t know how to link it so that when the db blog is updated it automatically updates on my face book. Is it easy enough that you can tell me how to do it?

This is pretty much going to be a picture tutorial with a few instructions, but I think if you can look at the pictures and see what I am doing you will be able to figure it out when you are on your own Facebook page.

First Step:

When you are on the profile tab of your Facebook page look towards the right side where you have that little arrow pointing down and click on it and then click on the Import (where the arrow I included here is at).

Second Step:

You will then see this screen that gives you options to import sites with the Blog/RSS option.  Click on it.

Third Step:

You will now see this area where you can type in your RSS Feed.  Once you do this then click on the update, and you should be all set with the RSS Feed showing up on your wall.

That’s it!

Here is how it will look when you first set it up, but after this it will only import the blog posts one at a time, or however often you post something.

How to get other applications working on your Facebook page:

That takes care of importing a Blog Feed, but now lets move onto something else.  I don’t know if you noticed all of the social media sites that Facebook gives you options to import.  Lets take a look at this next screen shot to see:  Do you see how you can import your Flickr, Digg, Picasa, Delicious etc. etc. etc. feeds?

They all follow the same basic principles as above for adding the feed into your wall.  You will need username and passwords for most, and some will just need feed URLs.  This is way cool because Facebook can import most of your actions online.

How to find, and get non-included apps on your Facebook page:

If you have an account somewhere that is not on this list – for example Twitter, you may have to install a Facebook App for it.  I usually just do a Google search first to find it.  For example; I did a Google search for Facebook Twitter App and got this result:

Once you find that page and click on it, you will get to a place (if you are already logged into your Facebook account) that looks like this:

Then all you have to do is put in your Twitter username and password and all of your tweets will start showing up (real time as you do it) on Facebook.

There you have it!  All of your online activity will now start showing up on your Facebook page.  I hope this helps out some people – especially the people who have been asking me about how to do it.  If you know of someone who could use this information, please feel free to pass it along to them too.

Feel free to follow me on Twitter!

Great tutorial! Facebook has been such a great tool to connect directly with my target audience. The coolest thing is that people go to Facebook all the time, can be there for hours, and using these tips can get me in front of them over and over again.

    Thanks for the tips!

I am adminstrator for the our Library’s facebook page. I have downloaded the Blog RSS Feed Reader application, and I’ve clicked on the pencil at left and selected edit so that I can add our blogs to the page. I get a blank page with the following message every time “Sorry, there was an error processing the request. Please refresh the page to try again.” Or “Firefox has been redirected into an unresolvable loop.: I have refreshed to no avail. I’ve tried it on different days, at different times, using different browsers and via different web connections (work and home). Please help!!!!
