  • Twitter Suggest – What Are Your First Impressions?

    Twitter

    Jul 30 2010

    Just got a suggestion from my good friend Dana about a new person I need to follow on Twitter, (by the way thanks) and after I followed I saw the screenshot below … I decided to go ahead and post it because a lot of my friends are asking me about it etc. If you have not seen it, or have it yet on your account – check it out:

      I’m actually digging it big time. I’ve added probably 100 people in the last few days. It’s hard to know where to look sometimes for people interested in the things as you and living in the same city. If they don’t know how to tag properly or haven’t listed themselves in Twellow, I might never connect. It seems Twitter Suggest looks at the account as a whole as well as the following patterns of the user.

      @Neil
      Thanks for the feedback, I have heard from several people the same thing. So far it seems pretty smart to me, but I also do enjoy the old school days of knowing for myself who I wanted to add and be friends with (rather then an algo telling me hahahahah)

      One of the most frequent questions I get from people new to Twitter is how do they find other people to follow. After all, Twitter is a particularly valuable tool if you can follow people who can offer information that you find interesting, useful and engaging.

      It’s actually a pretty good feature, a good way to find new additions! Then again, I might agree a bit about knowing who you want to add and be friends with and not relying on Twitter for that!

      Yes, it’s a good feature for twitter. But, the disadvantage of such is that every person have the option to add you even if you don’t personally know them. That fact perse can be very irritating on your part.

      I agree with Adam on that – it’s a great feature, you’re exposed to people with the same interest, but I too, would be wary of who was adding me through that option.

      I don’t like this new feature one bit. Many people use twitter for business and I don’t need anyone telling my potential clients to go friend a twitter account that is likely to capitalize on my potential customer.
      On the other hand, if I were to be able to control which accounts are suggested, then this would be a great feature. It would allow ME to send my followers to my other business accounts or others who I determine to send them. For Twitter to make this judgment call is NOT GOOD!
